THE CONNECTICUT WOMEN’S CONSORTIUM works to ensure that the behavioral health system is responsive to women who are struggling with mental health, addictions, trauma, violence, abuse, and access to respectful care. To do so, they educate nonprofits, clinicians, state agencies, students and others with an interest in behavioral health. New events are posted on their website and catalog. Some upcoming events offer a wide range of learning opportunities on a variety of topics including: Women and Gambling; Tobacco: The overlooked addiction; Children, Families and Trauma; Eating Disorders; Aromatherapy for Clinicians; Mental Health First Aid; and Men’s Trauma Recovery.

The Connecticut Women’s Consortium also works on projects to promote gender-responsive and trauma-informed care in the behavioral health field. Research has shown that a majority of people seeking behavioral health services for addiction or mental illness have a history of trauma such as PTSD, violence, and abuse. Gender-responsive care is mindful of the differences of trauma in women and men’s lives such as separate groups when discussing topics of abuse and violence.

ATTORNEY SANDRA K. GERBER emphasizes that there is an effective alternative to settle differences other than a costly courtroom battle.

Couples can control the decisions that affect their family and children, finances, business and life through mediation, a voluntary settlement process. Sandra is a neutral dispute mediator who helps people in conflict make practical, informed decisions to resolve the issues before them. Decisions are made by the parties, which allow each person to realize an optimum result. While the primary goal of mediation is to resolve differences, it also promotes communication & cooperation, allows you to control the decisions that affect your life, is frequently less costly than litigation, benefits children & others by reducing conflict, and can be completed in less time than litigation, so you can move ahead with your life. With Sandra’s help, agreements can be reached to handle immediate concerns. Couples may then negotiate long-range agreements. After independent attorney review, the agreement may be entered as a court order or judgement.
